Obituary of Lloyd Bernard Spear

Lloyd Bernard Spear, 81, went peacefully to be with the Lord on August 7, 2021, after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 29, 1940, to James Lyle Jr and Margaret Katherine Spear. Lloyd grew up in Waterloo, Iowa and lived in the Twin Cities most of his life. Lloyd attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Waterloo, IA where he was known as a talented baseball player. He then attended and graduated from Dunwoody School of Technology in 1963. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, both Active and Reserve, for a combined 6 years followed by working 35 years in the automobile service industry. He enjoyed a happy and fulfilling retirement and spent his favorite days with his loving wife, Catherine, and close family members. He enjoyed gardening, coaching baseball, playing golf, winter vacationing in Florida, and watching his children and grandchildren play their favorite sports while growing up. He especially enjoyed spending countless days at his lake cabin built by his own hands with assistance from his many helpful “associates”. Lloyd was a faithful member of All Saints Catholic parish. He was known for his love of family, his unique ability to connect with everyone, and for being a fixer and builder of many things. He was devoted to his family and the love of his life, Catherine, for 56 years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Lloyd is survived by his two children, Greg (Mary) Spear of Flower Mound, TX; and Jeff (Lori) Spear of Chanhassen, MN; five grandchildren, Andrew, Madelyn, Hannah, Ryan, and Lauren; and two brothers, James Jr. Spear and Reynold Spear.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Leslie Spear, Larry Spear and sisters Sue Eidell and Patricia Sharar. A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held Monday, August 16, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville, MN at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.
