Dorothy Elaine Myrvold Chappell died peacefully on October 3, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Breezy Point, MN. She was born September 16, 1924 in Hudson, WI, the daughter of Gus and Olga Myrvold. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church and graduated from Hudson High School in 1942. After graduation, she moved to Madison, WI and soon met Edgar Wayne Chappell, a GI stationed at Truax Field. They were married in 1944, then lived in Hudson, WI and Benson, MN before settling in St. Paul, MN in 1966.
Dorothy and Ed raised four children together. When their youngest left home in 1974, Ed (much to Dorothy’s dismay) bought a camper. She did not want to go “camping” but she soon came to love the trips they took. Together, they traveled from the West Coast to the East Coast, the Mexican border to Canada, and on to Alaska.
After Ed died, Dorothy moved to Pathways apartments and lived there for 21 years. She was a dedicated card player, taking great delight in winning at 500 or cribbage. She remained faithful to Grace Lutheran Church, a Circle member to the end.
Most of all, Dorothy was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children Jeanne (Richard) Fennell, Breezy Point, MN; Kay (George) Moran, Lester Prairie, MN; and David Chappell, Powell, OH. She’s also survived by six grandchildren: Steven, Kirsten, Brian, Stephanie, Ava, and Lauren; six great-grandchildren: Amanda, Colton, Logan, Alissa, Cameron, and Brian; and one great-great-granddaughter Savannah; along with several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Ed, daughter Patti (Daniel) Couture, sister Barbara Bahneman, and brothers Kenneth, Gordon and Marvin (Mike) Myrvold. She is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
While we are deeply saddened by our loss, we will be forever blessed by her memory.
